U.S. Solar Installations Top Two Million and Expected to Double By 2023

solar-panel-installationThe Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) has reported that there are now more than two million solar PV installations in the U.S.  This number has doubled in just three years and is forecasted to rise to 3 million installations in 2021 and 4 million in 2023; and that by 2024, “there will be on average, 1 solar installation per minute – up from 1 installation every 10 minutes in 2010.”

According to the SEIA report, solar is now a $17 million industry with two million residential, commercial and utility-scale solar installations that produce enough electricity to power 12 million homes in the U.S.

The demand for solar is booming — fueled by consumers aiming to lower their electric bills and protect the environment.  The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) recently announced in a new report that the cost of solar and other renewable energy sources has declined over the past year and is now on par with that of oil, coal and gas-fired power.  According to the report, “over 75% of the onshore wind and 80% of the solar PV capacity due to be commissioned next year will produce power at lower prices than the cheapest new coal, oil or natural gas options.”

According to Sunrise Solar Solution president and CEO, Doug Hertz, “If you look at it in aggregate, it’s just amazing. We started one panel at a time 10 years ago.  Now we’re celebrating our 10th anniversary and have installed systems on hundreds and hundreds of homes and businesses that feature higher quality materials and perform at a more sophisticated level with greater efficiency and functioning than ever before.”

Hertz says he is excited about the future and all the new challenges and advances.I see many more technological firsts in the future, especially on the commercial front.”

“Although the technological and business challenges keep things exciting — improving the environment will always be at the heart of Sunrise,” he said. “We’ve had a tremendous impact on the energy use in Westchester County and the entire Hudson Valley, while at the same time, improving the lives of our families and friends and neighbors. Knowing that we are having a real, measurable positive impact is the most rewarding part of the phenomenal growth of the solar industry.”
